How the Penalty Fees Work

We inquired about the specific fees Tampa Water charges customers . The only fee the company disclosed was a late payment fee. Typically, utility companies charge for returned payments and possibly security deposits. Tampa Water did not mention either one of those fees. The customer service representative continued to direct us to the online question form instead of answering questions.

  • Late payment – Tampa Water charges customers of fee of 5% for all past due amounts and applies to the current balance.

I Can’t Make a Payment

We spoke to customer service and asked if Tampa Water offered assistance programs for customers that can’t pay your bill. They were not helpful and left us on hold for more than 5 minutes. When they returned, the representative explained that the only program they now have that assists customers of Tampa Water is payment arrangements.

They informed us that customers must contact Credit Section at 1-813-274-8780 to speak with a customer service representative. They also explained that contacting Credit Section is not a guarantee of service. They did mention that Tampa offers help through community action agencies.
