How the Penalty Fees Work
We spoke to a knowledgeable customer service representative and they explained SCE&G charges fee to all customers. Not all of the fees are recurring, in fact, the majority of the fees charges occur on a one-time basis. The fees include reconnection fees, late payment fees, returned check fees and security deposits.
- Reconnection – If service is terminated, SCE&G charges you a fee of $25 to reconnect your service. This fee is in addition to any late payments and past due charges assessed to your account.
- Late payment – In the event your pay your SCE&G bill past the established due date, SCE&G charges you a fee of 1.5% of the past due amount.
- Security deposit – The amount of the security deposit depends on the creditworthiness of the customer. The maximum amount SCE&G charge is equivalent to the average of two months worth of service.
