Questions About Your Billing Statement or Account?

Xcel Energy operates in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. Customers can view Rates and Tariffs for a particular state by clicking on the appropriate link on the right side of the page. Customer service can answer detailed questions at 1-800-895-4999.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Xcel Energy charges penalty fees when payments are late or service is disconnected.

  • Late payment A 1% charge will be added to your bill if you don’t make payment by the due date. This charge is calculated as 1% of the past due amount. If your past due bill is less than $50, no late charge will be added.
  • Security deposit: When you start service with Xcel Energy, you may have to pay a security deposit. This deposit is held by the company until you pay 12 consecutive monthly payments on-time. Deposits are required for all accounts, unless the consumer chooses to have a credit check run to potentially waive the fee.

I Can’t Make a Payment

Customer service was extremely helpful when we asked about help paying heating bills, but the information the agent gave was the same as the information available on the official Xcel Energy website. No information was available on payment arrangements, other than the fact that they are available to customers with accounts in good standing (with no previously broken payment arrangements.)

  • Energy Assistance: Programs such as the LIHEAP home energy assistance program are available on a federal and state level to help low-income families pay energy bills. Most programs are based on income. Contact customer service for specific information on energy assistance programs in your state via 1-800-895-4999.
  • Gift Certificates: You have the option of purchasing gift certificates for friends and family members having trouble meeting energy bills. Customers must print off an application and send the application with a check made payable to Xcel Energy.
  • Heat Share: The Salvation Army runs the Heat Share program. Simply print off the Heat Share form and mail a check made out to HeatShare with your regular monthly Xcel Energy payment.
  • Payment arrangements: Payment arrangements are available from customer service at 1-800-895-4999. Customers must call to set up the payment plan before service is disconnected.
