How the Penalty Fees Work
In most cases, a simple call to the customer service department is more than enough to prevent penalty fees. If the company has no idea you have having financial problems, they cannot work with you to establish a payment plan or budget billing plan to ease utility bill burden.
- Late payment fee: 1.5% of the past due balance.
- Reconnect fee: Customers must pay total balance due and any fees assessed by Tucson Electric for reconnection. Overtime is charged if you request after-hours reconnection.
I Can’t Make a Payment
Tucson Electric states several times on the official website that customers with disconnect notices should visit a local Walmart to make payment and then contact customer service at 1-520-623-7771 with your receipt number. No other immediate payment options are listed. Programs available to help pay utility bills include:
- HEERO: Collects change from Tucson Electric customers each month by rounding up electric costs. If the customer is billed $72.50, the bill will round up to $73 and $0.50 will be placed in the HEERO fund. Customers in need can contact 1-520-623-7771 for more information.
- LIHEAP Home Energy Assistance Program: If you meet low-income requirements, you may qualify for LIHEAP. Tucson Electric customers can use LIHEAP funds to purchase fuel of most kinds to heat or cool the home.
