Austin Utilities is an electric company operating in Minnesota. Due to cold winters, Austin Utilities will not shut off electric service between October 15 and April 15, but only if customers meet certain requirements. There are five requirements to qualify for the cold weather rule. Customers must have a current account with no past due balances before October 15. The family income must not be more than 50% of the state median income. Electric must power the primary source of heat in the home. The customer must fill out forms for the Cold Weather Program and the customer must pay 10% of the household income to Austin Utilities each month (or the full energy bill, whichever is less).
