What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Orange and Rockland Bill

Orange and Rockland is an electric company serving parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The northern United States is known for long, cold winters with lots of snowfall, so Orange and Rockland is constantly working to improve customer experience and keep the lights on during tough winter storms. Orange and Rockland is owned by Consolidated Edison.

How to Pay the Bill

Orange and Rockland offers customers six options for making electric bill payments.

Pay online: You can conveniently pay your Orange and Rockland bill online at https://apps1.coned.com/myaccount/forms/login.aspx. The payments are processed through your online account, but registration is not required. Customers simply have to enter their account number to access account information. You must use a checking account to make payment online.

Pay automatically: You can register a bank account for automatic withdrawals. Each month you receive an Orange and Rockland bill, but payment is automatically deducted from your bank account on the due date. If there is not enough money in your account to cover the electric bill, you will be charged fees.

Pay by credit card or debit card: Credit card payments are processed with a service charge. Simply call 1-866-261-2997 in New York and 1-800-224-2317 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to make a credit card payment. The fee is $3.85 per $600 payment.

Pay by phone: Phone payments with a credit debit card are also processed by EZPay Express at 1-877-673-9729.

Pay by mail: Customers can make payments by mail with a personal check or money order. The payment address differs based on your location.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Orange and Rockland will charge penalty fees if your payment is not received by the due date listed on the bill. Fees will also apply if service is disconnected for non-payment.

  • Late payment fee: 1.5% of the past due balance calculated monthly.
  • Returned check fee: $25 per returned check or other form of returned payment.

I Can’t Make a Payment

Orange and Rockland is open about payment assistance programs. The company offers a payment plan for customers who can’t make payment by the due date. You must contact the customer service department to place your past due balance on a payment plan.

  • Payment agreement: Orange and Rockland will decide on a payment agreement based on your current circumstances. They may ask about current income, family size and income limitations when making a final decision. The details of the payment agreement will also take your account and payment history into consideration.
