What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Illinois Power Bill

The Illinois Power company was taken over by Ameren Illinois. The company website offers information for customers who want to pay bills online, reduce energy costs and access their account online. There are a few payment options for customers making bill payments with plenty of time before their due date. If your payment is late or if you have received a disconnect letter from Illinois Power, you need to contact the customer service department immediately.

How to Pay the Bill

Take a moment and look at the bill due date before making your payment. If there is one week or less before the due date, mail payments are not your best option. There can also be delays in payments made through outside companies like Western Union.

Pay online: You can pay your Illinois Power bill online at https://login3.ameren.com/nidp/idff/sso?id=ecustAuth&sid=0&option=credential&sid=0. You must register for an account and use your checking account to make your payment. No other payment methods are accepted.

Pay by Western Union: Illinois Power allows customer to use Western Union to make payments. The SpeedPay service is available at 1-888-777-3108. There is a service fee of $2.75 for paying through Western Union.

Pay by mail: Residential and business customers can send payments by mail to Illinois Power. The mailing address differs, however.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Make a late payment to Illinois Power and you will be charged a penalty fee. Other violations of the terms of conditions listed by the company could also result in penalties.

• Late payment fee: 1.5% of the total amount due added to your next bill. If payment is processed late because you chose a slower payment method, you will be charged the fee.
• Returned payment fee: Whether it is a returned check or returned debit payment, Illinois Power reserves the right to charge your account $15 for each occurrence.
• Transaction fees: Ranging from $1 to $2.75 depending on the payment method selected.
