What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Garland Power and Light Bill

If you live in the Garland, Texas area, you likely receive your electric service from Garland Power and Light. The electric company provides customers with online account access and multiple payment options. There is also information on several programs to help customers experiencing financial problems.

How to Pay the Bill

Pay online: You can pay your Garland Power and Light bill online at http://www.garlandutilities.org/BillPayInfo.aspx. The service is provided by Western Union SpeedPay so customers will be responsible for paying a $3.75 service charge per $600 payment.

Pay by phone: SpeedPay also accepts payments by phone at 1-972-205-2671. You will be responsible for the service fee when paying by phone.

Pay at a payment location: You can visit one of two payment locations to pay your bill in person. You must have your bill with you when making a payment.

Pay at a drop box: There is a drop box located at the 717 W State St address. Garland Power and Light reminds customers to submit payments in personal check or money order forms only. No cash should be deposited into the drop box.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Penalty fees are charged to your account when you don’t pay on-time or when you present a payment that is returned for insufficient funds. Fees may include:

  • Late payment fee
  • Returned payment fee
  • Collection fee
  • Disconnect fee
  • Reconnect fee

None of the fees charged by the company are listed on the Garland Power and Light website.

I Can’t Make a Payment

Payments must be received by the due date or the account will fall past due and penalty charges will apply. Contact customer service at 1-972-205-2671 before that happens and keep your bill lower. The customer service representative will work with you to place your account on a payment plan, if applicable.

LIHEAP: The LIHEAP program is available to customers who use electricity to heat or cool their primary residence. The program application is available through your local Department of Human Services. Customer service for Garland Power and Light may have more information or accept the application directly.
