What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Piedmont Electric Bill

How to Pay the Bill
Pay online: You can pay your Piedmont Electric bill online by visiting the account page at https://ebill.pemc.org/css/. Customers must have a valid email address to sign up for a Piedmont account.
Pay by bank draft: Bank draft applications are available from the Piedmont Electric website and local Piedmont offices. Simply fill out the application and return it with a voided check to Piedmont Electric to have bills directly paid from your bank account.
Pay by credit/debit card draft: Drafting payments from a credit or debit is similar to a bank draft, but there is a different form for credit/debit card drafts. Fill out the form and return it to Piedmont Electric.
FlexPay: FlexPay allows customers to make payments whenever they like as long as the electric account always maintains a positive balance. FlexPay is a pre-pay plan so customers pay for electric use before it is incurred.
Pay at a payment location: Payment locations are available during regular business hours to accept Piedmont Electric payments. After hours, three offices have drop boxes to accept payments 24 hours a day.

Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation gives customers a complete list of rates, tariffs and fees on the Electric Rates page. We did not find any information on specific fees like reconnect charges or late payment charges. They also advice customer to contact the service department at 1-800-222-3107 for fee information.
How the Penalty Fees Work
There is no information about penalty fees assessed by Piedmont Electric. Typically, cooperatives are excellent at providing this information, but not in this case. Possible fees associated with late payments and disconnected service may include:

I Can’t Make a Payment
If you can’t make your Piedmont Electric payment on-time, contact customer service immediately. Customer service representatives at 1-800-222-3107 are available during regular business hours to talk about potential payment options. When we called customer service our call was answering extremely quickly, but the agent kept asking for an account number. When we asked about payment options, we were told the information was only available to current coop members.
