What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your West River Electric Bill

West River Electric Association provides electric company services to Shannon, Jackson, Haakon, Meade and Pennington Counties in South Dakota. South Dakota is a cold state and the company is ready and willing to work with customers facing huge electric bills. However, it is crucial that customers with West River Electric contact customer service as soon as they know they can’t make a payment by the due date. If the customer does not contact customer service, the company assumes the customer is not willing to pay and issues a disconnect notice.

How to Pay the Bill

West River Electric accepts credit card, cash and check payments. The company may accept money orders, but that payment method is not listed on the website.

I Can’t Make a Payment

One of the payment options customers have with West River Electric is the budget billing program.

  • Budget billing: Allows customers to even out electric bills throughout the year. During the winter months, payments will be lower than normal, but during off-peak months, the bill will be higher.
  • Payment plans: The customer service department will work with customers to setup a payment plan they can afford. Financial problems happen to everyone and living in a cold climate makes winter electric bills unbearable. Contact customer service at 1-605-393-1500 for more information.
  • LIHEAP Home Energy Assistance Program: This program helps customers pay heating and cooling costs. Applicants must meet income requirements before receiving funding.
