What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your United Water Bill

United Water is a broad-spectrum water company that offers clean water solutions for communities, towns and cities. The company currently works to improve local water supplies processing wastewater for commercial and irrigation use. With more than $1.5 million in yearly donations, United Water supports local communities, but does it support the customer who cannot make a bill payment?

How to Pay the Bill

The official United Water website offers customers generic means of paying your bill. If you need more detailed information about local bill pay, visit the United Water website and enter your zip code.

Pay online: Customers do not have to visit a local United Water website to pay online. You can pay your United Water bill online at http://www.unitedwater.com/newjersey/connecticut/registration.aspx. If you’ve not registered for an account you’ll need to complete registration before you can make a payment. Registration requires Name, phone number, email address, mailing zip code, account number and tenant ID. You can also enroll in paperless billing and give your account a nickname from the registration screen.

Pay with direct debit: Once you’ve enrolled your account for online account access, you can setup direct payment from your bank account. Direct pay connects for United Water account with a checking or savings account so your bill is automatically paid each month. You must have the total amount due available in your account to make a payment or you could face late payment fees and insufficient funds fees from both United Water and your bank.

Pay by mail: Customers should use the address printed on their United Water bill for personal check and money order payments. If that address is unavailable, mail payments are accepted at:

Fees, service charges and tariffs differ from one state to another, so no master list of fees is available online. Enter your zip code on the Home Page of the United Water website then click the link for Brochures and Tariffs.

How the Penalty Fees Work

There is no master list of fees for United Water. The business operates in multiple states and thus the fees will differ from one state to the next. You can be certain that United Water will charge late payment fees, returned payment fees and reconnect fees if your service is disconnected for non-payment.

In New Jersey, for example, United Water charges $49 to reconnect service during normal business hours and $64 to reconnect after hours.

I Can’t Make a Payment

There are tons of reasons why you can’t make your United Water bill payment on-time, but the customer service department cannot help if you don’t make that call. Contact the customer service department on the number listed in your monthly bill. Ask about payment arrangements and extended payment dates, depending on your situation.
