What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Union Electric Bill

Union Electric, also known as Ameren Missouri, serves more than one million customers in Missouri. The company produces nearly 17,000 megawatts of electricity, 10,000 of which are produced by Union Electric. How to Pay the Bill

Making your Union Electric bill payment is quick and easy with one of the many options offered by the utility company.

Pay online: You can pay your Union Electric bill online at http://www.ameren.com/sites/aue/CSC/Pages/OnlinePaymentOptions.aspx. You’ll need to choose between electronic check payment and credit or debit card payment. If you want to make payment without a service fee, you’ll need to register for online account access from Union Electric and pay with your checking account. If you wish to use a credit or debit card, you’ll need to use the Western Union Speedpay service, which comes with a $2.75 service fee.

Pay automatically: If you wish to have your Union Electric bill deducted from your personal checking account automatically each month, you can register for DirectPay online.

Pay by phone: Customers can contact Western Union Speedpay to make a payment by phone at 1-866-268-3729. There is a $2.75 service fee for making payment.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Penalty fees will be charged to your account if your payment is late, payment is returned or if service is interrupted for non-payment.

  • Late payment fee: 1.5% of the total amount past due charged each month.
  • Returned payment fee: $10 for each returned payment charged in addition to any fees charged by your financial institution.
  • Reconnect fee: $30 for reconnects during normal business hours. After hours rates may be higher.

I Can’t Make a Payment

Many companies offer additional payment options for customers having trouble making utility bill payments. Some of the payment options and aid available to customers include:

  • Extended period: The pay date is deferred so the customer has more time to make a payment.
  • LIHEAP: Low-income energy assistance for qualified customers who meet income guidelines set by the federal program.
  • Payment agreement: Available one-time for all Union Electric customers per year. A 12% down payment must be paid before the remaining balance is placed on a payment plan.
