  • Connection fees when service is started. Connection fees are added to the first TXU Energy bill payment. Waivers may be available to some customers.

Will They Work With Me to Pay my Bill?

We received this helpful official statement from a TXU rep, discussing debt settlements and how they will work with customers who are can’t pay their bill:

1) Do you have procedures in place to work with customers who are behind on payments? What are they?

TXU Energy provides all customers a variety of tools to help them stay on top of their electricity bills before they fall behind. These include:

  • Average Monthly Billing – a budgeting option that helps customers smooth out seasonal highs and lows on their monthly bills
  • Flexible billing – the ability for the customer to choose their own due date on the account and time their bill payment to their budgeting needs
  • Recurring payments – automation of monthly payments via debit card, credit card or bank draft so customers don’t have to remember when to pay their bills
  • Prepaid electricity plan – customers who wish to retain control of their spending can add money to their TXU Energy FlexPowerSM account anytime they like
  • BrightenSM Energy Savings Solutions – an online resource available through txu.com, these tips, tools and projects can help consumers find ways to control and reduce energy usage.
  • LIHEAP – TXU Energy is currently investing more than $25 million in LIHEAP home energy assistance program. This program provides funds to customers that can’t pay your TXU Energy bill.

If the customer has already fallen behind on their payments, our TXU Energy customer consultants will do a visual audit on a customer’s account to see what payment option best fits their needs. If the customer is eligible (based on age, situation, and account history), they may be granted a deferral or installment plan. The customer can also sign up for one of the above options to help them avoid being delinquent on their payments in the future.

2) What are the penalties and fees associated with missing a payment?

Customers may see late fee charges on their invoice if payments are made past the due date on the account. In the circumstance service is disconnected for nonpayment, fees will also be assessed for the service being disconnected and reconnected.

TXU Energy strongly urges our customers to contact us in advance if they know they aren’t going to be able to make a payment. It is important for a customer to try to reach TXU Energy for payment arrangements because if the customer is eligible for arrangements, it can prevent late fees and other fees associated with non-payment on the account. Customers may even be required to pay a deposit if they continue to make late payments or fail to make payments on the account.

3) What is best-case and worst-case non-payment resolution?

The best case resolution for TXU Energy and our customers would be finding a solution that best fits that particular customer’s needs to make payments and keep service active.

The worst case resolution for TXU Energy and our customers would be if the customer is unable to make payments or arrangements resulting in service being disconnected.

4) Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about how your company addresses these concerns?

For 28 consecutive years, TXU Energy AidSM has provided more than $66 million to assist more than 390,000 families in need. TXU Energy AidSM was developed to provide temporary bill payment assistance to thousands of families in critical situations each year. Using the contributions made by TXU Energy and its generous customers, selected social service agencies across Texas administer the funds to families right in their community.
