What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Suntrust Bill

Suntrust is a consumer and business bank offering online bill payment to bank customers. The service is free, but new fees in 2011 could turn customers away from Suntrust. As of 2011, some customers will be charged a monthly maintenance fee of $7 in addition to other various fees.

Suntrust bill pay works the same as most other banks with online account access. Customers search for biller names and addresses through online banking and add the billers to their online account. If biller information is unavailable, customers can add the biller with the name, address and account number. Customers can also setup payment reminders and recurring payments.

How to Pay the Bill

Customers wishing to use Suntrust bill pay must have a bank account with Suntrust. Customers can apply for a Suntrust account at any local branch of the bank. Once you have an account with Suntrust, you can sign up for online banking via the Suntrust website. You can add online banking when you open the account at a local branch, as well.

Pay online: You can pay your Suntrust bill online at https://www.suntrust.com/PersonalBanking. You will need your sign-in ID and password to log in to your account. Once you schedule a payment, the estimated arrival date will appear. Customers should only make payments using Suntrust bill pay if the estimated arrival date is two to three business days before the due date. Some companies take several days to process bank payments.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Suntrust offers a complete list of fees assessed to banking customers. There are no direct fees associated with Suntrust bill pay, but customers will pay fees if they overdraw the account.

  • Monthly maintenance fee: Everyday Checking $7. Student Checking $4. Solid Choice Checking $17.
  • NSF fee: First NSF charge is $25. Each subsequent charge is $36.
  • Overdraft fee: First charge is $25. Each subsequent charge is $36.
  • Extended overdraft fee: $36.
  • Stop payment fee: $36 per stopped payment.

I Can’t Make a Payment

If you are experiencing financial troubles and can’t make a payment to your biller, you must contact the customer service department for the biller. Suntrust will not work with customers having difficulty making payments.

Will They Work With Me to Pay My Bill?

Suntrust will work with online banking customers to utilize bill payment to pay bills on-time, but they will not help customers have financial difficulty making bill payments.
