What To Do When You Can’t Pay Your Sears Bill
Any one who frequently shops at Sears or buys products online at Sears.com can save significant amounts of money by charging purchases to a Sears credit card. Promotions are almost always available to Sears card holders, including zero percent interest on certain purchases and additional discounts on sale items. A smart shopper takes advantage of these offers and carefully pays off the credit card’s balance each period to avoid interest charges and late fees. Before committing to monthly payments, however, you should make yourself aware of the policies and actions that go into effect if you become unable to pay your bill for some reason. This credit card is handled by Citibank in partnership with Sears.

Questions About Your Billing Statement or Account?
Sears credit is funded by CitiBank. A brief summary of card benefits and payment fees are available on the Sears Card FAQs page. For detailed questions about your bill, including fees listed on your billing statement, contact Citi customer service at 1-800-950-5114.
How the Penalty Fees Work
- Late fee: A single missed payment due date results in a late fee of $25.00. During the six billing cycles following the first missed payment, any additional missed payments incur a $35.00 late fee.
- Returned payment fee: The penalties are identical to those connected with a late fee.
I Can’t Make a Payment
The customer service department for the Sears card seems to receive rather poor reviews from customers when it comes to quick, straightforward answers to questions about billing. Occasionally, billing statements show charge amounts that are not immediately identifiable, leading to questions about the validity of the charges. Customers whose non-payment has progressed to the point of debt collection report that they were unable to make it past the phone system’s basic customer service department. Difficulty in reaching agents that might be able to help you set up an alternative payment plan means that defaulting on this credit card carries the serious risk of legal action by the card holder.
It may be helpful to note that the terms and conditions of this credit card includes an arbitration agreement. This agreement, increasingly common in credit card policies, states that any disagreement between the borrower and the lender will be settled in arbitration instead of the court system.
