How the Penalty Fees Work

If you can’t pay your bill by the due date you need to contact customer service. A late fee will be applied to your account if payment is not received within 10 days if you do not contact customer service.

  • Late payment fee: Sawnee Electric charges the greater of $15 or 1.5% of the past due balance as a late payment fee. If the account remains in late status into future months, a charge of 1.5% per month will apply.
  • Returned check fee: Customers must pay a returned check fee of $30 per instance. A late payment fee may apply to the account if payment is returned.
  • Reconnect fee: Reconnect fees range from $35 to $225 depending on the situation.

I Can’t Make a Payment

According to the customer service department, online bill payments are not suggested for past due accounts. If your account is facing disconnection, you must contact the customer service department at 1-770-887-2363 during normal customer service business hours. The customer service representative will talk with you about payment plan options and may give you contact information for local utility assistance programs to help relieve utility costs. If you don’t contact the customer service department, Sawnee Electric does not guarantee the online payment will be processed before service is disconnected.
