What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your SA Water Bill

SA Water has been in operation for close to 2 centuries. The water company is controlled by the Government of South Australia and provides water service for more than 1.5 million residents.

How to Pay the Bill

Pay online: Customers can pay your SA Water bill online by visiting https://www.bpoint.com.au/epages/sawater.sf. Acceptable method of payment is credit card. The maximum amount accepted during a transaction is $1000.

Pay by phone: Customers can pay your SA Water bill by calling 1300-650-870. The accepted method of payment is a credit card.

Automatic deduction: Customers can pay your SA Water bill by having the funds automatically deducted on a monthly basis. Simply complete the application and email to SA Water.

Pay in person: Customers can pay your SA Water bill in person at various locations including, Commonwealth Bank, BPOINT outlet and Australia Post. An additional location is:

Alternative methods: Customers can pay your SA Water bill by using third-party services including Centrepay and BPAY.

  • Centrepay – Customers must call 1300-650-870 and speak with a customer service representative. Acceptable form of payment includes credit cards.
  • BPAY – This service requires the customer to register with your bank or credit union. You have the ability to pay your SA Water bill by visiting the website or calling 13 2221. Customers need the four-digit access code, 8888, when making payments.

How the Penalty Fees Work

SA Water charges fees for late payments as well as a one-time security deposit. Additional fees such as returned check fees are typical, but were not listed.

  • Late payment – SA Water charges customers a 2% fee for payments received after the due date. In the event the past due bill remains unpaid, the fee increases by .75%.
  • Security deposit – SA Water charges customers a deposit between $217 and $325 for water and sewer service.

I Can’t Make a Payment

SA Water offers specific programs designed for customers that can’t pay your bill. The programs are sponsored by the state government.

  • Seniors Card – Qualified seniors that worked for the government are entitled to a reduction in their SA Water bill up to 60%, with the maximum amount not exceeding $100.
  • Pensioneer Concession – Qualified customers are eligible for a $190 reduction in their bill. The customer must possess an EDA Gold card, a Repatriation TPI Health card, a State Concession card or be a War Widow.
  • Additional Concessions – SA Water customers that are currently receiving Austudy, Parenting Payment, Newstart, Sickness Allowance or Special Allowances are eligible for a reduced rate.
