How the Penalty Fees Work

  • Meter tampering: $500 plus estimated energy amount under-billed
  • Collection fee: $75
  • Reconnection fee: $100
  • Returned check fee: The member is charged $30 for every time payment is returned. If the coop presents the payment more than once to the bank, there could be more than one returned payment fee.
  • Disconnection: $100 for labor and transportation

Other fees that may apply if your service is disconnected include:

  • Idle distribution facilities fee
  • Labor and transportation for idle facilities

I Can’t Make a Payment

Customers are owners at Pedernales Electric, so they have multiple options for paying past due bills.

  • Deferred payment arrangement: Past due payment is broken into smaller payments and added to current bill amounts until the past due amount is paid in full.
  • Fixed payment plan: Previous 12 months plus 10% divided by 12 payments. This plan is billed as equal payments every month.
  • Average payment plan: The average bill amount is computed monthly and rolls from one month to the next. This means the bill could change month to month. If the plan is cancelled, any accumulated amounts are immediately payable in full.
  • LIHEAP: Customers wanting help paying your Pedernales Electric bill are encouraged to apply for the federally-funded program LIHEAP. How to qualify for energy assistance with LIHEAP? You will need to contact customer service or apply at your local Department of Social Services office. The program requires you meet certain financial requirements prior to approval.
