What to Do When You Can’t Pay You NYSEG Bill
NYSEG is an electric company offering services to customers in upstate New York and New England. Natural gas services are also available through NYSEG. The company services more than 261,000 natural gas customers and 878,000 electricity customers. NYSEG is subsidiary of Iberdrola USA.
How to Pay Your Bill
Bill payment options for NYSEG customers include:
Pay online: You can pay your NYSEG bill online at http://www.nyseg.com/YourAccount/payyourbill/paybillonline.html. The service costs an additional $4.95 per use. Payments can be made with a debit card or a credit card. When paying your bill with the online service, you will need your credit card information as well as your account information. Payments made online will not be recurring.
Electronic funds transfer: Paying your bill through electronic funds transfer requires you to set up an online account through the website. The money is deducted from your account 23 day after NYSEG sends out your bill. You can also send in a paper copy of the electronic fund transfer to:

Pay in person: Payments can be dropped off at one of 13 locations. Drop boxes are provided outside for your convenience. You can make a payment directly to a NYSEG representative during normal business hours.
Pay agents: Payments are accepted at Check Free Pay and Western Union throughout the state. You must bring your bill payment stub when paying at these pay agents.
Check Free Pay: Located in Walmart stores, Check Free Pay charges a convenience fee and accepts cash, debit cards and money orders.
Western Union: Charges a convenience fee and accepts money orders, debit cards and cash.

How the Penalty Fees Work
The late payment fee is the only fee listed in the FAQs section for NYSEG.
Late payment fee: 1.5% of the past due amount.
There could be other fees assessed by the gas company, including:
- Security deposits
- Reconnection fees
- Insufficient or NSF fees
- Service charges for reconnection
I Can’t Make a Payment
NYSEG provides multiple options for customers who cannot pay their bills. The customer service representative provided general information on payment arrangements.
- Gift Cards: If someone you know is having difficulty paying their NYSEG bill, you can offer the Gift of Energy. Gift cards can be purchased at NYSEG locations. The denominations are $25, $50 and $100. Your bill stub must accompany the gift card. You can also send in a completed order form to:

- LIHEAP: NYSEP customers can apply for LIHEAP home energy assistance program, the federally funded service to help pay for energy costs. LIHEAP eligibility is based upon income and is awarded once per season.
