What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Louisville Gas and Electric Bill

How to Pay Your Bill

Pay online: You can pay your Louisville Gas and Electric bill online by visiting https://my.lge-ku.com/logon/logonServlet?redirectURL=%2Fcs%2Flogon.sap. Customers must sign up for an online account before accessing current account information and payment. You can make a payment any time, 24 hours a day.

Auto pay: Automatic payments are available for customers who want to forget about gas and electric bills. This option allows Louisville Gas and Electric to withdraw money from the customers payment account every month. The payment is deducted on the due date. There may be a delay when cancelling automatic payments, so it is important for funds to be available on the due date.

Pay by phone: Phone payments are accepted at 1-502-589-1444. Customers press 1, 2, 2, 3 to make a payment at the prompts. There is a processing charge of $2.95 per transaction. The fee is charged by the processing company, not Louisville Gas and Electric bill pay.

Pay by mail: There is an envelope included with your Louisville Gas and Electric bill. If you need to send payment and don’t have the addressed envelope, send mail payments to:

Pay in person: Customers wishing to make payments in person can visit an autorized payment location or visit 701 S 9th St in Louisville.

How the Penalty Fees Work

  • Late payment charge: If you are unable to send your Louisville Gas and Electric payment on-time, a 5% late payment charge will be assessed. LG&E does not assess the fee until three days after payment is due to allow for mail processing.
  • Disconnect charge: LG&E charges a $29 fee for disconnection and reconnection. The fee may be charged to the customer upon disconnection, but it covers reconnection charges when reconnection occurs.
  • Returned payment charge: There is a $10 fee if your payment is returned for lack of funds. This charge is in addition to any charges from your bank.
  • Security deposit: Louisville Gas and Electric reserves the right to charge a security deposit based on several factors, including credit score.

Helping Hands: Louisville Gas and Electric offers the Helping Hands program for customers having trouble making a bill payment. Customers should call 1-800-331-7370 for options, including partial payment plan.

Referral system: LG&E offers referrals to local and federal programs offering payment assistance. Listed programs include Louisville Metro Human Services and Metro United Way.

Utility bill assistance program: Programs available to customers in the Louisville area include LIHEAP, Community Winterhelp and Jefferson County Community Action Agencies.

LIHEAP: This program is available from the federal government and provides assistance to low-income customers that can’t pay your bill. The LIHEAP home energy assistance program is a one-time grant that helps you pay your heating and cooling costs. The grant is only available once per year, so we recommend applying early.
