Mississippi LIHEAP Assistance

Assistance for Mississippi LIHEAP is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Funding for the 2012 calendar year is about $23 million. In 2011, Mississippi LIHEAP helped more than 66,000 households by providing funds for heating and cooling assistance. Applications for Mississippi LIHEAP must be received between October 1 and April 30 for heating assistance and May 1 and September 30 for cooling assistance. Crisis applications are accepted year-round.

The crisis program is designed to help households facing disconnection of primary heating and cooling utilities. Applications are processed faster than general LIHEAP applications and funds are sent to utility companies to stop the disconnect. You must bring documentation of the impending disconnection to qualify for crisis benefits.

The average heating and cooling benefit received by qualified applicants in Mississippi is around $450. This is not the maximum benefit, however.

LIHEAP Application & How to Apply
