How the Penalty Fees Work
Hampton Roads Sanitation District does charge penalty fees for late payments and returned payments.
- Returned payment fee: Customers will see a $25 charge on their bill each time a payment is returned for insufficient funds. If the payment was made as an online payment, online payments may be blocked for up to one year if payment is returned.
- Delinquent service charge: If an employee is dispatched to your home to request payment, your account will be charged a $15 fee for the trip.
- Restoration after business hours: If you make a full payment, including all fees, and you request service restoration after 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, your account will be charged a restoration fee of $100.
