What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Dynowatt Bill

Texas is a retail electric company playground. State laws allow retail energy companies to compete for consumer business and thus, sellers and resellers are constantly offering special deals and fixed rate electric plans to lure in more business. While rates are competitive, some customers still find they are financially unable to pay their electric bill at one time or another. Dynowatt and other retail electric companies are known for offering simple payment plans and reduced rate electric to keep costs down.

How to Pay the Bill

Dynowatt offers many of the same bill payment options as traditional electric companies. The most convenient is online bill pay, but that is not always the fastest when it comes to paying a past due account to prevent service interruption.

Pay online: You can pay your Dynowatt bill online at https://www.dynowatt.com/MyDynowatt/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fMyDynowatt%2fDefault.aspx. Customers must register for online account access, but registration is free. Once registered, customers can view past electric usage, view past bills, pay current bills and make changes to their electric account.

Pay automatically: If you want to reduce the hassle of remembering to pay your electric bill each month, Dynowatt offers automatic payments. The auto pay program is setup through your bank. You give Dynowatt permission to debit your bank account each month for the full amount of your electric bill. If the money is not in the account when Dynowatt attempts to pull payment, you could be charged fees from Dynowatt and your bank.

Pay by phone: The best way to pay your past due account balance is by phone. The payment is processed immediately and the customer service representative can note the account as paid to prevent further fees and interruption of service. The number for customer service is 1-877-396-6928.

Questions About Your Billing Statement or Account?

If you have questions about you billing statement, especially the penalty fees associated with service, such as late payment fees and returned payment fees, we suggest you visit the Dynowatt FAQ resource page. For additional information, contact customer service at 1-877-396-6928.

How the Penalty Fees Work

Penalty fees are charged to customer accounts when payment is not received by the due date. In some cases, fees are charged for reconnection after interruption of service for non-payment. We found no reconnection fee listed in the terms of service for Dynowatt.

  • Late payment fee: A 5% charge is added to your next bill if payment is received after the due date.
  • Returned payment fee: $25 for each returned check or returned payment.

I Can’t Make a Payment

Dynowatt does have a payment plan option for customers who want to pay off a past due balance. The details of this plan are not available, but we found several consumer complaints about the customer service department and inflated electric rates. One customer complained of rates jumping 100% in just one month effectively doubling her electric bill without notice from Dynowatt.

  • LIHEAP Home Energy Assistance Program: If you are facing an energy bill you can’t afford or you’ve received a disconnect notice, there may be help available from the LIHEAP program. LIHEAP offers immediate help for customers in dire need. Simply contact your local Department of Human Services for an application.
