What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your DQE Bill
DQE or Duquesne Light is an electric company in Pennsylvania. Customers can choose to make payments to the company online or by mail, in addition to other services provided. If your account is past due, contact the customer service department immediately for more information on payment plans and/or local agencies that may be able to help.
How to Pay the Bill
The fastest way to pay your DQE bill is to contact customer service and pay by phone. The representative will note your account that payment has been made, stopping the disconnect process.
Pay online: You can pay your DQE bill online at https://secure.dqe.com/DLX/CustomerServices/Electriweb/AccountSummary/default.cfm?MakePaymentNow=1. Payments are processed by Western Union, so customers will be responsible for paying a service fee of $2.50. There is also a delay in payment processing, so payments are not credited immediately.
Pay by mail: If you wish to pay with a personal check or money order, make your payment payable to DQE and send to:

Pay at a Western Union pay station: Visit any Western Union pay station in your area to make a payment. You will be charged a $2 fee for making payment via Western Union.

How the Penalty Fees Work
If you cannot make your payment on time, contact the customer service department immediately to avoid late payment fees and other charges.
- Returned payment fee: DQE will charge $20 to your account if your personal check or other form of payment is returned for lack of funds.
- Late payment fee: A 1.5% late payment fee will be assessed if payment is made after the due date. This fee will be charged even if you mailed payment before the due date, but payment is processed after the due date.
- Reconnect charge: If you need to have service reconnected after non-payment, you could pay a reconnect fee between $89 and $250.
