How the Penalty Fees Work

Demco Electric charges customers a security deposit as well as late payment fees and insufficient funds fees. The customer service representative we spoke to did not disclose the specific amount of the insufficient funds fees. They did inform us of a detailed list of installation fees.

  • Security deposit – The security deposit depends on the customer and their credit score. The maximum amount of the security deposit will not exceed the equivalent of 75 days of average electric use.
  • Installation – You may be required to pay up to $300 for installation of service on top of your security deposit. If your service is relocated, an additional fee of $3.50 is accessed to your bill.

I Can’t Make a Payment

When we spoke to customer service, we found they were pleasant, but did not offer relevant information regarding assistance with customers that could not pay their Demco Electric bill. The customer service representative informed us of one service the company offers, Operation Roundup.

  • Operation Roundup – This program is available to Demco Electric members that are handicapped, elderly of in financial need. Your bill is rounded up, allowing you to better manage your monthly expenses.
  • LIHEAP home energy assistance program: This program is designed to assist low-income customers that can’t pay your Demco Electric bill. You need to apply at your local National Energy Assistance Referral Project (NEAR) office and meet income guidelines. You will need to apply early due to the limited availability of funding.
