I Can’t Make a Payment

Con Edison offers several options for customers having trouble paying energy bills. Options include:

Payment Arrangements: After receiving a final bill before service is discontinued, contact Con Edison customer service. The customer service team will send a payment arrangement to your home at least 10 days before service is disconnected. If the payment arrangement is not low enough, contact customer service to discuss other options.

Payment Extension: If you will have the money to pay your Con Edison bill in the near future, contact customer service for a payment extension. Extensions are scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Medical Assistance: Customers with special medical needs or those having medical hardships causing late bill payment may receive a 30 day extension.

Elderly Assistance: Elderly customers with a total energy bill less than $420 per year may receive quarterly bills instead of monthly bills.

Leveled Billing: Leveled billing divides the total energy bill amount for the previous 12 months into 12 even payments. Any overpayment of actual usage will be credited on the account. Any underpayment is subtracted from credits available on the account. Every 12 months, leveled payment amounts are reviewed.

LIHEAP: The LIHEAP home energy assistance program is available through the State of New York and assists qualified low-income customers that can’t pay your bill. The program offers heating assistance for the months of November to March and crisis assistance from the months of January to March.
