LIHEAP in Connecticut
The Connecticut LIHEAP program supplies heating and crisis support for low-income families between the months of November and March. Heating applications are accepted during this time, but crisis applications may be accepted throughout the year depending on program funding and eligibility. LIHEAP works with local utility companies who accept payment from the program and credit that payment to the appropriate accounts. Utility companies in Connecticut working with LIHEAP include:

Connecticut LIHEAP assistance helped more than 170,000 households in 2011. The minimum benefit credited is $605 with a maximum benefit of $840. Residents work with the Connecticut Department of Social Services or community action agencies working with the Department of Social Services to process and approve applications. LIHEAP Application & How to Apply
Applying for Connecticut LIHEAP is simple. Contact the Connecticut Department of Social Services at 1-800-842-1132, local community action agencies or your utility company to learn more about the application process. There are two income levels accepted in the Connecticut LIHEAP program. Typical residents must earn at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. Seniors and disabled residents must earn at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
When applying for LIHEAP in Connecticut you will need to prove your income with approved documentation and prove family size with social security cards or birth certificates. The application process may take more than 30 days from the time your application is submitted until the application is approved.
