How The Penalty Fees Work

The APR on a Barnes & Noble MasterCard for purchases ranges from 13.99% to 24.99% depending your your credit history, and will vary according to the Prime Rate. To avoid paying interest on purchases pay your entire balance on your due date which is at least 23 days after the close of each billing cycle.

The penalty APR can be up to 30.24% – again based on your credit history – and will applied to your account if you:

  • Make a late payment
  • Go over your credit limit
  • Make a payment that is returned

When calling Barnes & Noble customer service to find out what their policy is for customers who have fallen behind in payments, they directed our call to the Barclays/B&N Card Services Relationship Manager which stated that they do not have a policy in place, but that they direct customers to a third-party debt resolution company of their choice.
