What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Asheville Water Bill

The City of Asheville Water Department is the water company serving the city of Asheville. Asheville is characterized with extremely cold winters and exceptional snow fall amounts. When living in Asheville it is important to protect pipes from extreme cold. If pipes freeze they could bust causing water leaks and increased water bills.

How to Pay the Bill

Asheville offers several payment methods for residents. The fastest option is in-person or phone payments as customer service representatives can note the account immediately that payment was received. Mail payments are accepted, but payments should be sent well before the due date to prevent late payment fees.

Pay online: You can pay your Asheville water bill online at https://selfserve.ashevillenc.gov/CSS/citizens/UtilityBilling/Default.aspx. The service is called MUNIS Self Services. Customers need the account number and customer ID. Look for the account number box on your bill. The numbers to the left of the dash make up the customer ID. The numbers to the right of the dash make up the account number.

Pay by mail: Customers can mail payments by personal check or money order to:

City of Asheville
Customer Services Division
PO Box 733
Asheville, NC 28802

Pay automatically: If you fill out an authorization form with the City of Asheville, future water payments can be deducted from your bank account automatically. Payments are processed up to three business days before the due date listed on the bill. If money is not available in the account, you could be liable for a late payment fee and returned payment fees from Asheville Water and your banking institution.

Pay in-person: You can drop off a payment in-person to the Customer Services Division in City Hall. The office is located on the first floor for your convenience.

Pay at a drop box: A drop box is located at 161 S Charlotte St in the parking lot of the Public Works building.

Questions About Your Billing Statement or Account?

  • Delinquent fee: The delinquent fee is listed as $15. This could be the same as the late payment fee.
  • Disconnect/Reconnect: Asheville Water will charge a $50 fee if your service is disconnected.

I Can’t Make a Payment
