Despite a thorough search, we couldn’t find peer-reviewed research specifically on butter coffee’s effect on weight or health. Its popularity ties directly to keto, where boosting fat intake, hard to reach through food alone, is a central goal, and butter makes that easier.
Older research on butter itself, separate from the coffee angle, found vegetable-based fats more effective for weight loss than animal-based fats like butter.

There is a genuine connection between coffee, in its various forms, and weight loss — though it may not be strong enough to show up dramatically on the scale.
