What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your MUD Bill

How to Pay the Bill

Pay online: Customers can pay your MUD bill online by visiting https://myaccount.mudomaha.com/Welcome.action . You have the ability to pay your bill is a credit card or a debit card. There is no convenience fee for this service.

Pay by phone: Customer can pay your MUD bill by phone by calling 1-402-554-6666. You can pay using your credit card or debit card. There is no convenience fee associated with this service.

Pay in person: Customers can pay your MUD bill by visiting:

Automatic draft: Customers can have your MUD automatically deducted from your checking or savings account. This service is free.

Payment stations: Customers can pay your MUD bill at various banks throughout the state as well as the Omaha Public Power District and Hy-Vee grocery stores.

How the Penalty Fees Work

MUD charges fees for late payments, returned checks and at times a security deposit. The customer service representative did not provide an exact amount, but gave us approximate calculations.

  • Late payment – Customers paying your MUD bill past the due date incur a fee of 5% to 10%. The amount is applied to the current balance.
  • Returned checks – The amount MUD charges for returned checks ranges from $5 to $25. Additional bank charges apply.
  • Security deposit – MUD charges customers a security deposit depending on their credit history.

I Can’t Make a Payment

When we spoke to the MUD customer service representative, they explained they offer resources to customer that can’t pay your bill. The first option is to call customer service at 1-402-504-7002. They will set-up a payment arrangement to fit your monthly budget. They also provided us with a list of state-funded agencies that offer assistance to MUD customers that can’t pay your bill.

  • Budget pay – The budget payment plan is based upon the customer’s usage, divided by 12. The service is free and available during the entire year.
  • The United Way of the Midlands – Offers assistance to income-eligible customers of MUD.
  • LIHEAP – If you use gas to heat or cool your home, the LIHEAP Home Energy Assistance Program may be able to help you pay your MUD bill. MUD customers must apply for benefits and meet income guidelines before being accepted for LIHEAP.
